By Evan Smith

Lake Forest Park mayoral candidate Mary Jane Goss continues to lead opponent Dwight Thompson in fundraising.

Through Friday, former LFP Councilwoman Goss reported raising $17,818 and spending $9,492 to current Council member and Deputy Mayor Thompson’s $14,369 raised and $12,207 spent.

Goss has maximum $800 contributions from Margaret and Richard Marshall of Lake Forest Park, from the National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington, $800 for both the primary and general election from the Washington Association of Realtors and $500 contributions from Cheryl Greene and Randi Sibonga of Lake Forest Park. She reported a personal contribution of $1,868 and loans of $3,216. Her largest expenditures have been for campaign consulting, for yard signs and for a mailing for the primary.

Thompson has $500 contributions from Lydia Thompson of Lake Forest Park and from the Frank Lumber Co. He reported $1,314 in personal contributions and $4,700 in loans. His largest expenditures have been for campaign consulting, for a primary mailer and for doorbell cards.

With nine weeks before the general election, the two candidates have raised $32,187 and spent $21,699. That’s $5.67 raised and $3.82 spent for each of the 5,672 voters who cast ballots in the City election two years ago.

The two were close in the primary, with Goss taking 49.6 percent of the vote to 46.8 percent for Thompson.
