From an Echo Lake resident
We had some excitement in my neighborhood this morning around 10 a.m. (Friday, September 2, 2011)

Police from all over were converging on an alleged burglary suspect, complete with helicopter. It appears that they captured the suspect.

A fellow who was doing some work on my house had just arrived and saw someone run into the back yard of a house at the southern point of the intersection of N 203rd and Burke Ave N, and moments later I saw two people run west to east further down the driveway that leads to a gate that goes to the other cul-de-sac of Burke Ave N, the one that is north of N 200th St.

With help from neighboring cities’ patrol and K-9 units and a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Edmonds police captured a burglary suspect who fled on foot following a traffic stop near the Shoreline/Edmonds border Friday morning. Police had already arrested two other suspects who were riding in the same car on suspicion of burglary.

The incident began at about 10 a.m. Friday when officers of the Edmonds Police Street Crimes Unit were working a residential burglary emphasis in the Westgate area of Edmonds. While driving in 23600 block of 94th Avenue West, one of the Street Crimes officers noticed a suspicious vehicle occupied by a lone man sitting in the driver’s seat, and also saw two men walking away from this same vehicle.

According to Assistant Chief Gerry Gannon, the officer recognized one of the men as a person of interest in numerous prior area burglaries. Soon after, the two men on foot returned to the vehicle and the car left the area.

The officer followed the vehicle into the city of Shoreline, and at North 200th and Meridian Avenue North, (in the Echo Lake Neighborhood), made a traffic stop. As soon as the vehicle came to a stop, one of the subjects jumped out of the car and fled. The Street Crimes officer detained the remaining two subjects for further investigation, and determined that all three of them has been casing residences in the area for the purpose of committing burglaries. Responding officers were able to locate one home in particular that had been burglarized in the immediate area in which the Street Crimes officer had first seen the three subjects, Gannon said.

Patrol units from Edmonds, Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Lynnwood K-9, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and King County Sheriff’s Office Guardian One air support all responded to the area to locate the subject who had fled. After a one and one-half hour search, the subject was taken into custody in the area of I-5 and North 205th Streeet.

The investigation continues with all three suspects in custody on suspicion of residential burglary.
