Coming Home, an introduction to military culture, Wednesday, October 12, 2011, 4:30 - 6pm, Shoreline City Hall, 17500 Midvale Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133.
The C.A.R.E. Team of the Northshore/Shoreline Community Network has been providing Cultural Competency events for several years, focusing on different ethnic cultures. Recently, they decided that they needed to expand their view beyond ethnic culture.
With the recent focus on veterans and their needs, the Team realized that a culture which represents a large portion of the population had been overlooked - the "military culture."
The Team has planned an event to remedy this, with their "Coming Home" session on October 12.
Scott Swaim, a veteran and mental health counselor who specializes in PTSD. will present information about military culture with the goal of helping service providers and educators develop new understanding and skills about what these veterans face as they return from war. Participants will learn more about how to best work with veterans and their families.
The event is free of charge, but space is limited. Please make your reservations here.
