RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Lake Forest Park consists of over three square miles by the northern tip of Lake Washington, located on land that was once a winter village site for local Native Americans; and
WHEREAS, Lake Forest Park was one of King County’s first planned suburban communities, developed by Ole Hanson, who would later become mayor of Seattle; and
WHEREAS, Lake Forest Park was designed to correspond to the contours of the area’s topography, and especially to preserve its natural beauty—in the words of Ole Hanson,“magnificent sweeps of forest green and…beautiful Lake Washington sparkling in the sunshine”; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lake Forest Park is a vibrant and engaged community of approximately 13,000 people; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lake Forest Park incorporated half a century ago, on June 20, 1961;
NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Metropolitan King County Council, recognize the
CITY OF LAKE FOREST PARK
on the 50th anniversary of its incorporation.
