Shoreline honors its volunteers with a soiree and a proclamation

Shoreline volunteers were honored on April 13 with a Proclamation from the City, a Soiree, and were gifted with free tickets to several dozen area attractions.

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, April 10 – April 16 is Volunteer Week across the country; and

WHEREAS, in 2010 City of Shoreline volunteers reported more than 17,166 hours of service; and

WHEREAS, volunteers assist City departments and the community; they contribute their time and talents staffing the Neighborhood Police Centers, serving on boards, commissions, task forces and advisory committees, organizing local neighborhood associations, providing emergency communication capability, cleaning up local parks and streets and providing recreational opportunities for their Shoreline neighbors; and

WHEREAS, through their many and varied efforts volunteers enhance the quality of life in Shoreline, making it a great place to live, work and play; and

WHEREAS, City of Shoreline volunteers will be honored at a Volunteer Appreciation Soiree with the Hawaiian theme “Mahalo Volunteers” and provided free admission to a variety of local cultural and recreational opportunities in the Seattle area through a reciprocal free admission arrangement during volunteer week;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Keith McGlashan, Mayor of the City of Shoreline, on behalf of the Shoreline City Council, do hereby proclaim the week of April 10 – April 16, 2011 as VOLUNTEER WEEK in Shoreline and encourage all citizens to seek volunteer opportunities and express appreciation to those who volunteer.
