Shorecrest, King’s athletes shine at Shoreline Invitational Track Meet

Athletes from Shorecrest and King’s high schools were the top local performers at the Shoreline Invitational Track meet Saturday at Shoreline Stadium.

Shorecrest placed 10th among the more than 60 schools from around Washington and British Columbia with teams in the all-boys meet. The Scots were led by Dillon Baker, who placed 4th in the 110-meter hurdles and 11th in the 300 hurdles.

King’s dominated the javelin competition, with Curtis Clauson, placing 1st, followed by 4th-place Slater Hirst and 11th-place Nathan Talbot, King's placed 17th in the team competition.

Shorewood tied for 55th. The Everett Herald named Clauson one of seven high school athletes of the week.

The meet included the standard 17 high school events plus the distance-medley and sprint-medley relays and a frosh-soph 1600-meter run. Shorecrest placed 3rd in both of the medley relays.

Meet team champion Federal Way was named Seattle Times high school sports team of the week. The Times named 100-meter winner Justin Bennett of Renton its male high school athlete of the week. Bennett, a senior, ran the fastest time in the state this season, 10.68 seconds. He also was part of the winning 4x100 team, which turned in the state's third-fastest time this year,
