Update from Shoreline Veterans Association, next meeting Apr 25

Saturday, April 2, 2011

By Frank Moll

The planning for a Veterans Day event, 11/11/2011, is underway. The event Committee held its third monthly meeting on March 28 with emphasis on determining the general outline of this year's activity.

A sub-committee consisting of Frank Moll, Marcie Riedinger and David Bowen was formed to carry the specific planning forward. As was the very successful 2010 observance it will again be held at the Shoreline City Hall on Friday November 11. Shoreline residents interested in participating in the planning are encouraged to contact Frank at 206-363-5363.

Contact has been made with the Public Affairs Office at Naval Base Everett. It is anticipated that a Color Guard, Rifle Squad and similar support functions will be made available by the base. Some longer range planning such as promoting an increased display of American Flags on public buildings and spaces, businesses and private residences is considered an important future activity. An interim name of Shoreline Veterans Association was adopted.

The next meeting will be held on April 25 at 10 am in the Shoreline City Hall. The assistance of any Shoreline citizen interested in recognizing and honoring the service provided to us by veterans young and old would be welcomed. Bring your ideas to the next meeting on April 25th.
