Take me out to the ball game - two powerhouse baseball teams meet up on Shorewood’s turf
By Sheri Ashleman
The Shorewood Boys Varsity Baseball game against the Redmond Mavericks that was scheduled for Thursday, April 14, was rained out.
The game has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 16, with JV starting at 11:00 am and the varsity game proceeding at 2:00 pm.
Baseball scouts add to the excitement.

Both teams feature strong pitching staffs. Due to the media interest in Redmond’s pitchers and Shorewood’s own superstars—University of Washington-commit Blake Snell, Gonzaga recruit Kevin Moriarty and UW signee Trevor Mitsui -- there will probably be upwards of 50 professional and/or collegiate scouts present.
In a recent Wesco 3A baseball coaches’ poll, Shorewood was projected to have the top team in the division. The 2010 squad finished fourth in state, and Shorewood baseball coach Wyatt Tonkin believes this season’s group has state-champion potential.
Lots of fun activities have been planned for this special game — free spirit buttons, a baseball parent throwing out the first pitch to his son, joining with the cheerleaders in singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”, and a free drawing for mugs with the Shorewood Varsity Baseball Team’s picture on them!

Shorewood Boosters will be hosting a “Spirit Grill” at the Shorewood baseball field located at the south end of campus. The barbecue will start at 12:30 pm. Enjoy ball park favorites -- grilled hot dogs, chips, apple slices, Cracker Jack and a beverage — all for only $5. Booster gear will be available for purchase.
Shorewood fans, including students, parents, staff, alumni, community members and Little League participants, are encouraged to attend and cheer on the fabulous Shorewood Thunderbirds. Root root root for the home team!
