The Strandberg Preserve is a 2.65 acre forested property with a trail that connects 20th Ave NW to 17th Ave NW in Richmond Beach.
The City of Shoreline owns the property and Cascade Land Conservancy has a conservation easement on the property.
The Cascade Land Conservancy is a local non-profit organization that is responsible for guaranteeing that the property be preserved and maintained for scenic, educational, and passive recreational uses forever.
The Cascade Land Conservancy has a team of volunteer land stewards who are trained, then assigned to Cascade Land Conservancy conservation properties throughout the region.
Shoreline resident, Carolyn Hope, is the land steward for Strandberg Preserve and coordinates with Cascade Land Conservancy and the City to host work parties to maintain the quality habitat on the property. Work parties generally occur annually and usually consist of removing invasive plant species or replanting areas that have already been mitigated.
The forested property is adjacent to Richmond Beach Park. The area has significant scenic and natural habitat for resident and migratory birds including Bald Eagles, Osprey, and Great Blue Heron. Mature stands of Douglas fir trees on the property offer a nesting site for these birds.
Unfortunately, invasive weeds are threatening the health of this beautiful area. Join volunteers for a day to battle the invasive weeds.
Two work parties are planned for Strandberg Preserve this spring:
Saturday March 26
Saturday May 14
10 am to 1 pm
19101 17th Ave NW
There will be an introduction to the property, description of the planned work project for the day, instructions on how to identify the invasive plants, and training in how to safely and properly remove the plants. Volunteers of all ages are welcome and are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring a refillable water bottle. Suggested attire includes boots or comfortable athletic shoes, work clothes, rain gear and appropriate layers. Light refreshments will be provided.
