Shoreline Public Schools Foundation breakfast and lunch event March 31 raises money for schools

The Shoreline Public Schools Foundation is a private, volunteer organization which exists to raise funds for enrichment projects and student scholarships for Shoreline Public Schools.

They have a large fund-raising event each year where they showcase some of the projects and people funded by SPSF funds.

This year's event will be held on Thursday, March 31: a breakfast from 7-8:30 am and a lunch from 12-1:30 pm. The same program will be presented at both events.

Anyone is welcome to attend and tickets can be reserved at the Foundation website. Sponsors can reserve a table for eight for $400. Individual tickets are $50.

Teachers, schools, artists, and others with programs they need funding for will send their proposals to the Foundation. The Foundation reviews the proposals, prioritizes them, and then funds them based on available money.

Last year there was at least one project at every school in the district. From their website, here are some of the other ways they use their funds:

OPPORTUNITY GRANTS provide each of our K-12 schools with an “emergency fund” for school supplies, health checks, field trip fees and other classroom costs for students in need. Students have received a total of $88,360 in assistance.

SECONDARY ENRICHMENT SCHOLARSHIPS are awarded to 7-12 grade students, who are in a unique financial circumstance, for any program that is an enrichment opportunity such as music, athletics, leadership or workshops. 250 scholarships have been provided totaling $48,287.

SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM provides assistance to 5th through 8th grade students with extended learning opportunities in reading and writing. Also provides tuition assistance to 9th through 12th grade students to gain help in areas of need and enroll in online credit recovery courses. Since 1992, we have disbursed $461,902.
