Shoreline Police use DNA evidence to capture suspect in Shorewood theft

On September 17, 2010, teachers arriving at Shorewood High School discovered that unknown suspect(s) had broken into the school by breaking out a window. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole several computers.

Sometime during the burglary the suspect(s) cut themselves on broken glass from the window leaving blood behind. SRO Bardsley took two DNA swabs from the glass.

Detective Magan submitted the DNA samples to the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab for analysis. On November 9, 2010, Detective Magan was notified by the crime lab that they had obtained a profile from the DNA and provided the name to Magan.

Detective Magan arranged to meet with the suspect. Based upon her interview with the suspect in addition to the physical evidence, Detective Magan has charged him with Investigation of Burglary and Theft.

The 21 year old suspect lives in Kenmore and does have prior felony convictions.

    Monkeys steal food from humans all the time if they can. Does it mean that they are commiting a crime even though they do not know our laws?
