SCC adds acting, cinema history and film production to Spring Quarter evening class offerings

Acting and web production instructors at Shoreline Community College will offer evening classes beginning Spring Quarter 2011.  The courses, open to college students and to community members, are being offered to support interest in introductory classes in film production and acting.  

Acting (DRMA 146) 
6:30 – 8:30 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
 five-credit beginning acting class in which students will experience a practical introduction to acting and improve character and story development abilities.  The class is designed for students who are thinking about trying acting out as well as for those who have some background in theater but want to explore another avenue for inspiration.  Chris Fisher, Instructor.

Cinema History (CINEM 201)
6:30-8:30 pm, Tuesdays. Students will examine cinema history from pre-motion picture influences to modern advances. The course will cover the historical, cultural, and artistic impacts of film and filmmaking.  Chris Fisher, Instructor.

About Chris Fisher

Fisher received an MFA in theater from Rutgers University in 1992. In 1993, she co-wrote a book that was made into an Emmy-awarding winning film produced by Barbra Streisand that starred Glenn Close and Judy Davis.  She taught classes in theater and film, as well as directed over 20 plays and musicals at Shoreline Community College, where she was a full-time professor from 1993 to 2007.  Fisher co-founded The New Space Theater in Shoreline with fellow SCC acting instructor, Tony Doupé.  

Fisher has directed at other theaters including the Broadway Performance Hall, Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, and the other company. Her directing credits include Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire, Cloud Nine by Caryl Churchill, Lady from the Sea and A Doll’s House by Ibsen, Travesties by Tom Stoppard, The Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder, and The God of Hell by Sam Shepard. Her own plays have been produced or work shopped at Broadway Performance Hall, New City Theater, the Seattle Rep, Princeton Rep, and the Douglas Fairbanks Theater in NYC.   

Webisodic Production (DRMA 295) 
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. 
Enrolled students will get an introduction to the basics of film production, with an emphasis on how to produce a short film or web series.  David Golden, Instructor.

About David Golden:

Golden has over 20 years experience as a writer, producer and director in the film and television industry. He has worked in every form of media, including network and cable television as well as feature films. Golden has also written, directed and/or produced award winning promotional, corporate and educational programs for a wide range of clients, and has directed and/or produced more than 100 national and regional television commercials. He has taught classes and workshops on film production and screenwriting at a number of colleges and universities across the country.

Shoreline Community College is currently accepting applications for Spring Quarter 2011.  

• New students must complete an application.  
• New students with previous college experience not seeking a degree or taking only one class can register online without an appointment beginning March 9, 2011.
