Shorewood girls play final regular-season game at home Wednesday after clinching tournament berth despite Monday loss

The Shorewood girls’ basketball team plays its final regular-season game Wednesday at home against Meadowdale before heading for Northwest-District-tournament play.
 

The sixth-place Thunderbirds take a 3-10 Wesco 3A record (4-15 overall) into the 7:30 p.m. game against third-place Meadowdale (9-4 Wesco 3A, 11-8 overall). Shorewood lost at Meadowdale in mid-January, 70-63.

Shorewood clinched the sixth and final Wesco berth in the Northwest District 3A tournament despite a Monday loss to first-place Lynnwood (12-2, 17-3) because both Mountlake Terrace (2-12, 4-16) and Oak Harbor (1-12, 2-16) also lost.
 

The District tournament begins Feb. 9, with first-round games on the home courts of the Wesco #1, 2 and 3 teams and the Northwest League 3A #1 team.
 

In Shorewood’s 66-50 loss at Lynnwood Monday, Lynnwood outscored the Thunderbirds 28-8 in the fourth quarter for a come-from-behind victory. Masha Shtikel led the T-birds with 26 points; Lisa Echert scored 11; and Jennifer Thompson added 9.
