from Shoreline Police
On Thursday, January 20 shortly before 2 am in the 20300 block of 15th Ave NW, a witness called 911 to report that his motion light came on. He went outside to check it out and saw a subject standing next to his truck. When the subject saw the witness, he/she ran away. The witness said that the subject was wearing a gray top with the hood up and possibly had a backpack. He thought the subject was a male.
Officers responded to the area. Officer Velie contacted someone matching the description given by the witness. It was quickly determined that the subject was a female who had tucked her hair up inside the hood. Initially, she lied about her name.
According to the officers, the subject was verbally confrontational. She appeared intoxicated; the odor of alcohol was very prominent and her words slurred together.
The officers determined the suspect’s true name and found that her actual age was not 21. At this point, she was arrested for Minor in Possession and Obstructing. In a search of her backpack, officers recovered mail, vehicle registrations, I-pod charger, etc. All were things associated with car prowling. Officers also recovered two bottles of wine and a baggie of marijuana/pipe.
Officers then went to addresses listed on the vehicle registrations and confirmed with the owners that their cars had been prowled. Some property was returned to its owners.
The suspect was arrested and charged for Minor in Possession, Possession of Marijuana, Obstruction and Possession of Stolen Property.
The suspect is a 20 year old Shoreline resident.
Crime Prevention Tip from Shoreline Police
Remove everything of value from sight; ideally, you should take valuables inside with you. LOCK your car! Even if it’s in your driveway! In many vehicle prowls the cars are left unsecured giving easy access to those out looking for a car prowl opportunity.
