Shorecrest, Shorewood girls to meet in first round of Northwest District 3A basketball tournament Feb. 9 at Shorecrest

The Shorecrest and Shorewood girls’ basketball teams meet in the first round of the Northwest District 3A tournament, Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Shorecrest.

The two will meet as the No. 1 and No. 8 seeded teams in the tournament.

Shorecrest got the top seed as Wesco 3A co-champion. The Scots and Lynnwood tied for first with 12-2 division records, but the Scots got the top seed by virtue of defeating Lynnwood in both of the teams’ meetings.

Shorecrest goes into the game with a 13-7 overall record and an 11-game winning streak, Shorewood with a five-game losing streak and a record of 3-11 Wesco 3A, 4-16 overall.

The winner of the Wednesday game will play in a Friday, Feb. 11, semi-final game against the winner of a first-round game between Meadowdale, the No. 3 Wesco 3A team, and the yet-to-be-determined No. 2 3A team from the Northwest League. The losers of the two games will meet Friday in an elimination game. Northwest League teams finish their regular-season schedule Monday.

The tournament continues Feb. 15 and 18, with the top three teams qualifying for the State tournament, Feb. 23-26.

The Shorecrest girls won their 11th straight game 58-51 at fourth-place Everett (8-6, 13-7) Wednesday. Brianne Lasconia led the Scots with 23 points. Janie Uppinghouse scored 22.

Shorewood lost a home game Wednesday to Meadowdale, 63-32. Lisa Echert led the Thunderbirds with 14 points.
