YMCA volunteers and staff launched the 2011 Partners With Youth Campaign on Tuesday, January 25, raising funds to provide local children and families access to "life-changing, confidence-building Y programs."
The generosity of PWY donors helps the Y to bridge the gap to better health, well-being and educational opportunities for thousands of struggling families throughout King and south Snohomish counties. By nurturing the potential of youth, promoting healthy living and fostering social responsibility, the Y works to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
In our local community, the Dale Turner Family YMCA is stepping up to meet the needs facing our neighbors and strengthen our future with a commitment to secure $283,500.
“In our service area, more than 14% of families are living below the poverty level and 25% of our kids are overweight,” reports Courtney K. Whitaker, Executive Director of the Dale Turner Family YMCA. “We encourage our community to join us in supporting programs and services that change lives-together we can make a difference.”
Staff point out that a gift to the Y helps strengthen the foundations of community in lasting, important ways, like helping kids learn responsibility and teamwork, teaching teens and young adults leadership and career-building skills and supporting single parents with child care.
The Y says that it stewards its contributions very effectively, directing 95 cents of every dollar raised into its programs and services.
About Dale Turner Family YMCA
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Each day throughout the north King and south Snohomish County communities, the Dale Turner Family YMCA staff and volunteers work side by side with neighbors within their communities to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to achieve their potential. The Y works hard to make available for children the opportunity to not only reach their potential, but learn, grow and thrive on their way to becoming responsible and caring adults. The Y provides families with the tools to combat chronic health problems and diseases such as childhood obesity and diabetes because the Y believes healthy parents and children are necessary for strong, happy and secure families. The Dale Turner Family YMCA recognizes the rich diversity in its community and is committed to ensuring that all minorities, recent immigrants and language learners find a welcoming environment. At the Y, we believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.
