Community Garden |
by Afia Menke, Community Gardener
Spring is in the air. Days are longer. Hummingbirds are building nests and the Shoreline community garden stakeholder “buds“ are getting closer to bloom.
During the past year your community garden group has been meeting and in the most altruistic way we are building the “hive” for a wonderful community garden organization. We hope that this organization will help you to learn about and create your own gardens- in public parks, at your home be it a single resident or apartment dwelling, at church or even at your place of work.
Last December we hired the Pomegranate Center to “pollinate” our vision, mission and potential committees. We put our hearts into this work so that we can help you to support your local food systems, help you to feed less fortunate folks, expand our native habitat and cultivate more community “bumping places.”
Currently our work includes choosing a name, writing our organizational bylaws and preparing the ground for future growth of community gardens throughout Shoreline.
We are pleased to have been supported by Seattle Tilth and The City of Shoreline.
Our name will soon be decided so stay tuned for this and more community garden “buzz.”
