WeatherWatcher: winter storm watch
Monday, January 10, 2011
A winter storm watch means conditions are favorable for severe winter weather.
The National Weather Service of Seattle has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Puget Sound Lowlands, Everett and Vicinity-Seattle/Bremerton area, this includes the Cities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park.
Winter Storm watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday Morning for the lowland areas of Western Washington.
Accumulations expected with the watch are from one to three inches of snow Tuesday night.
Snowfall is expected to start Tuesday afternoon just before rush hour.
1-4 inches of snow accumulation with locally higher amounts are still expected at this time. People are advised to have an earlier commute to avoid a traffic disaster much like the one we had last November. The nature of this storm is still quite unpredictable and uncertain so I will continue to monitor for watches or warnings.

Snowfall is expected to change over to rainfall sometime after Midnight Wednesday morning. There is a possibility of freezing rain in the change from snow to rain. Freezing rain is much more of a problem for drivers than snow.
The national weather service of Seattle also warns that with this snow event there is still much uncertainty and the forecast may change at any minute in the moments before the storm or during the storm. This includes the duration of snowfall, and accumulation amounts.
Drive safely for the next couple days, if the roads are too slick, stay home or wait for the roads to clear up. Go home early on Tuesday or leave for home with the first snow flakes.
