Shorewood Wrestling team tops cross-town rival Shorecrest

The Shorewood wrestling team defeated Shorecrest 44-27 Thursday at Shorecrest by dominating the lower weight classes.
Shorewood wrestlers won the first seven bouts and jumped out to a commanding 38-0 lead going into the 145-pound match.
Shorewood freshman Matthew Floresca moved up from the 112-pound division to 119 pounds and earned a 7-1 victory over Shorecrest's Jesus Escalona to set the tone.
Shorecrest senior Nick Kelly avenged two previous losses to David Ball, beating Ball 3-2. Shorecrest won the next two bouts by pin to get back into the match.
Shorecrest's run was stopped short, as Konnor Carpenter scored a late one-point escape and two-point takedown to win the 171–pound bout over Matthew Brennan, 12-9.
Shorewood improved its dual-meet record to 2-1 in the Wesco 3A league and 5-5 overall. Shorecrest is 1-3 in the league and 1-5 overall.
