There are a range of fitness facilities in the area, some of which have opened recently.
Newly Opened Gyms
Planet Fitness is a brand new fitness gym facility located in the Lake Forest Park Towne Centre, 17171 Bothell Way NE Suite 270, 206-467-1366. Its pre-grand opening sale is going on now. All Planet Fitness memberships come with free unlimited fitness training at no extra cost. A certified trainer will meet with you for a session of up to 4 people. It is a general fitness center, with cardio and strength equipment, and you design your own program. Sessions are available and you can sign up at the front desk. Presale Hours are: Monday - Friday 9 am to 7 pm, Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 3 pm. Club Hours When Open: Monday - Thursday 5 am to 10 pm, Friday 5 am to 9 pm, Saturday and Sunday 7 am to 7 pm.
Fitness 19 is a new gym opened in the former Retrofit location in the Cedar Plaza in Mountlake Terrace on 44th. A company with around 130 locations, Fitness 19 claims to have a changed concept in the fitness world. Fitness 19 say they are an extremely affordable, family-friendly facility offering state-of-the-art cardio, strength and free weight equipment, as well as the addition of a fully staffed kids' space. Regular dues are $19.95 a month. Dues get even cheaper if you have multiple members in your family joining: $9.95/month for the second person, and only $5.95/month for the third.
Other Gym Facilities
With two locations, in Edmonds on Main St at 5 corners and in Lake City at Lake City Way and 120th, Mieko’s Fitness offers a variety of services and facilities. Meiko’s Fitness is a local company owned by a brother and sister team. Their facilities include month-to-month memberships, cardio environment center, weight rooms, kid’s club, and free group fitness classes and programs.
Curves is the largest fitness and health club franchise in the world. Its facility is designed for women. Curves has two close locations in Lake Forest Park (17171 Bothell Way NE, A012B) or in Edmonds (616 - 5th Avenue S). Curves provides a 30 minute total body workout, free weight management classes, strength and cardio training, and a customized personal coach. A Curves membership is good at any location nationwide.
In Ballinger Village (20202 Ballinger Way NE) you will find a 24 Hour Fitness center. This location offers a range of group exercise classes, personal training, kids’ club, massage, and sauna. Open 24 hours per day, 24 Hour Fitness allows a free 7-day trial pass before signing up for membership. This 24 Hour Fitness is considered an ‘active’ club type, meaning it is a moderately sized club. At 24 Hour Fitness Active level clubs, you can get a full-body workout by using cardio equipment, strength machines, and free weights.
Spartan Recreation Center, located between the Shoreline Conference Center and the Shoreline Stadium (202 NE 185th Street) offers a fitness room, aerobics/dance room, and updated equipment with new Precor aerobic and Paramount strength-training machines. In addition, every Tuesday evening from 4:30 - 7 pm a personal trainer will be on-site to assist people with instruction on using the machines or a personalized work-out program, free of charge. Drop in fees for the use of the Spartan Center are as follows: Single Use Fees (includes use of gym and/or weight room and/or shower) Adults: $2.75 per visit; w/Resident Disc.: $2.00 per visit, Youth: $1.00 per visit for resident and non-resident youth. A 10-Punch Pass or 3-Month Pass is also available for longer term use. Drop-in use of weight/fitness room is available during regular hours of operation. Must be 16 years or older to use the weight room, and youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The hours of operation are: Mon-Thurs 8 am– 9 pm, Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, Saturday 8 am–4 pm.
The Dale Turner Family YMCA, located at 19290 Aurora, offers a state-of-the-art health, wellness facility, classes, and programs for every age and ability. It features 52,000-square feet with various activities and resources available for families, teens, and seniors. This includes a full size gym, state of the art wellness center, 25-yard handicapped-accessible pool, an indoor cycling studio, a pinnacle climbing wall, and a variety of group exercise classes. In addition, the YMCA offers childcare (“Adventure Zone and Kids Corner) while parents exercise. YMCA is a membership organization open to everyone. There are four types of memberships available: facility, regular, program, or daily membership. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 5 am – 10 pm, Saturday 8 am - 8 pm, Sunday 8 am – 6 pm.
