YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) and HUGGIES® Little Swimmers® Brand, a product of the Kimberly-Clark Corporation, have awarded the Dale Turner Family YMCA a $1,000 grant to expand the reach of its parent/child water enrichment programs in north King and south Snohomish Counties.

The gift is one of 150 grants of $1,000 each awarded by HUGGIES® Little Swimmers® Brand to Ys across the country. The funding will be used to provide financial assistance to low-income and underserved families who wish to engage in YMCA parent/child water enrichment programs, which are designed for children from 6 to 36 months old.

Specifically, the Dale Turner Family YMCA will offer financial assistance to low income families for Parent and Child Swim Lessons. The Y will also conduct a focus group to identify new ways to encourage parents and children who traditionally do not swim to enjoy the water together.
“We are pleased to support the Dale Turner Family YMCA in its efforts to provide such a critical program to the community,” said Stu Schneider, HUGGIES® Senior Brand Director. “The Y’s national reach and expertise in water safety provides an unparalleled opportunity for us to broaden our impact in local communities in north King and south Snohomish Counties and to help make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of young children and their families.”

Goals of YMCA parent/child water enrichment programs are to provide parents with vital water safety information, gently introduce young children to the water environment, and allow parents the opportunity to spend uninterrupted quality time with their child.
“Through our water enrichment programming, we are making a positive, life-long impact on the families we serve by fostering a love of water in children at an early age,” said Courtney K. Whitaker, Branch Executive Director. “This generous support from HUGGIES® will help us enhance our outreach efforts to underserved communities so we can offer parent/child water enrichment programs to more families who otherwise might not be able to participate.”

Since 2000, Kimberly-Clark has been a valued supporter of various YMCA healthy living and family strengthening programs. In 2008, the collaboration was expanded through the HUGGIES® Little Swimmers® Brand to enhance YMCA water safety programming, specifically parent/child water enrichment, through program grants.

Since its founding, the Y has been dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities.
