Weather Watcher: Thunderstorm

Carl Dinse has a weather station in the northeast corner of Shoreline and will be sending his WeatherWatcher bulletins to the ShorelineAreaNews.
Carl reports:
You could hardly fail to notice a thunderstorm roll through this morning. It was caused by a weather front called a Bow Echo. It is very rare in Western Washington and it prompted the National Weather Service of Seattle to issue a severe thunderstorm warning. The storm moved through at 40 mph and started breaking apart at about 9 am as it crashed into the Cascade Mountains.
When the storm hit the temperature dropped from 48 to 44 and 0.9 inches of rain fell in less than one hour.

Yes, it was a remarkable little storm. There was one huge thunder clap here in SE Shoreline, the likes of which I've rarely heard, even though I'm from NJ where thunderstorms occur frequently.
The loud thunderclap sounded like an explosion and reverberated for what seemed like an entire minute.
I even opened the front door to see if something had exploded nearby, but nothing but heavy rain going on.
Phew! Good thing I was already awake, or I might have jumped out of bed.
