LFP Sinkhole is enlarging and getting closer to auto shop

Saturday, December 18, 2010

During the "100 year storm" season of 1997, when the hillside collapsed on Perkins Way, the gas station on Ballinger Way and 185th found out they were sitting on top of a portion of Lyon Creek which had been diverted into culverts and buried.

The stream escaped the pipes, undermined the ground, and created a large sinkhole on the small property. The owner discovered that the hole could not be filled, so he had the gas pumps and storage tanks removed and remained in business as a successful auto repair shop.

Every significant rainstorm enlarges the sinkhole and moves it closer to the door of his shop.
KING5 did a report Friday, which was posted on NWCN.
