The Northshore Fire Foundation donated bicycle helmets to 19 happy children at the Kenmore Elementary Head Start classroom on Wednesday, November 3.
Two Northshore Fire Department firefighters visited the classroom to make sure the helmets were properly fitted.
“The kids were so excited to have the firefighters here to fit their helmets and tell them how important it is to always wear a helmet when they ride their bikes,” said Melissa Bloor, Head Start teacher. “We are grateful for the Northshore Fire Foundation’s generous donation.”
The Northshore Fire Department has donated helmets to the Head Start children since 2005. This year the Foundation offered to make the donation. The Foundation is a group of professional firefighters that serve the communities of Kenmore and Lake Forest Park.
They formed a non-profit foundation to further their drive in helping those in need in the local community in ways they could not while performing their normal work functions. Through other established charities, the Northshore Fire Foundation seeks out families they can sponsor during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season for food and gifts. They participate in the Big Brother/Big Sister Program, and also use their resources to raise awareness or funds for other charities, such as the NW Burn Foundation.
