Letter to the Editor: Bill Kiskadden was not punished

To the Editor

Wrong again Evan Smith. Bill Kiskadden was not punished by putting his Mountlake District home into this solid democratic District. In fact it was what Kiskadden wanted. He was active in the Richmond Beach Congregational Church and had a lot of supporters and friends so he wanted to run in that district. The other fact is that what became the 1st legislative district was not a solidly democratic district at that time. Kiskadden was not up for election in 82 which pushed Donn Charnley out as you may recall. Republicans did the redistricting after the 1980 census, but lost the election in 82 and that is why they agreed to a redistricting commission, a long term goal of the League of Women Voters of Washington.
