Democrats Maralyn Chase, Cindy Ryu and Ruth Kagi solidified their leads in Wednesday election returns.

Returns from the Washington secretary of state show Chase leading Republican David Baker for the open State Senate seat, Ryu leading Republican Art Coday for the State representative seat that Chase now holds, and incumbent Kagi holding a 62-38 percent lead over Republican Gary Gagluardi.

Chase held a 58-42 percent margin over Baker, and Ryu held a 59-41 margin over Coday, with more than half of the expected votes tabulated.

The King County part of the District reported a voter turnout above 40 percent, compared to an expected 70 percent. King County returns reported Wednesday afternoon include all ballots that had arrived at the County elections office or left in drop boxes by Monday and all those cast at accessible voting machines in Bellevue, Seattle and Tukwila.

Returns from the Snohomish County part of the District include ballots that arrived by Tuesday and all votes cast at accessible machines in Everett and Lynnwood.

King County will post updated returns at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Snohomish County will post new returns at 5 p.m.

Most of the District is in King County, including Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore and the Finn Hill area near Kirkland. A smaller portion is in Snohomish County, including Woodway, south Edmonds and unincorporated Esperance.

While most ballots will be counted by Friday, counties will continue to count votes arriving from overseas and from ballots returned for signature verification through final certification on Nov. 23.
