Republican David Baker signaled the end of his campaign for the State Senate Monday by congratulating Democratic winner Maralyn Chase, thanking his supporters and appealing for money to defray the cost of the campaign.
Baker said that he had taken more votes in the 32nd District than any Republican since the 1970s. That technically may be correct, but most of what is now the 32nd District actually elected a Republican in the 1980s when it was part of the 1st Legislative District.
Baker is still a city councilman and mayor in Kenmore.
Baker trails Chase by a 60 percent to 39 percent margin, with both King and Snohomish counties to certify results Tuesday. King County votes come from Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore and the Finn Hill area near Kirkland. The smaller Snohomish County part of the District includes Woodway, south Edmonds and unincorporated Esperance.
