At the Council’s last meeting before the August recess, Robert L. Olander announced his retirement as City Manger for the City of Shoreline effective February 25, 2011. Mr. Olander has been with the City for nine years, four of those as City Manager, and has been in city government for the past 30 years.

One of the biggest decisions a City Council can make is choosing a city manager. The city manager is responsible for implementing the Council’s policies and running the day-to-day business of the City. Over the next several months, the Council will work with the Prothman executive search firm to find the City’s next City Manager. The Council anticipates naming a new City Manager by the end of January 2011.

• Approved Amending the 2010 Budget for Operating Funds and Capital Projects
• Authorized City Manager to Enter into a Design Contract with The Berger Partnership for Park at Towncenter Master Plan
• Approved an Interlocal Agreement Between the City of Shoreline, Shoreline Fire Department, and Shoreline School District for a Joint Fiber Optic Backbone for the Three Agencies
• Authorized the City Manager to Execute an Interlocal Agreement Between Snohomish County and the City of Shoreline for Jail Services through December 31, 2016
• Authorized the City Manager to Retain Prothman for City Manager Executive Search Services
• Adopted the Kruckeberg Botanical Garden Master Plan
• Authorized the City Manager to Obligate $1.9 Million in Surface Transportation Program (STP) Grant Funds for the Aurora Corridor Project
• Authorized the City Manager to Execute a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Between the City of Shoreline and King County Metro to Transfer Funding for the Aurora Corridor Project Between N 185th and N 205th Streets
