Music instructors at Shoreline Community College performed at an annual Open House on Friday, September 30, 2010. Instructors who have made their careers at SCC and some who are just beginning their work at the college delivered a couple of hours of entertainment as a gift to students, faculty and staff to kick off Fall Quarter 2010.

Music theory and piano instructor, Jeff Junkinsmith did double duty, performing and emceeing. His ease in both roles was evident as he introduced musicians who sang and performed on piano, saxophone and banjo.

Tom Moran's bluegrass group performed “40 Years of Trouble,” an old bluegrass standard, and a fiddle tune called “Hop High Ladies,” which elicited a huge applause as did Sue Dolacky and Fred Lokken's duet of "Anything you can do I can do Better." Bruce Spitz's version of an Eric Clapton piece was performed with quiet elegance and the jazz performances by Doug Reid, Steve Kim Doug Zangar and newcomers Jeff Kashiwa and James Elenteny was electrifying.

Artists performing included Bruce Spitz, Jensina Byington, Helena Azevedo, Barry Ehrlich, Sue Dolacky, Doug Reid, Tom Moran, Steve Mallott, Charles Enlow, Fredrick Lokken, Steve Kim, Doug Zangar, Andy Shaw, and newcomers, Kashiwa and Elenteny. The performances were stellar and provided a testimony to the kind of music educators at Shoreline Community College.

A fund-raiser for music scholarships is planned for 3 p.m., Sunday, January 30, 2011. Watch DAAG for more information.

Short videos of SCC’s music faculty are on YouTube and a photo gallery is located at Flick.
