Briarcrest Elementary School first grade teacher Therese Schmidt is among more than 1,000 educators across the country to be recognized as part of the OfficeMax "A Day Made Better" nationwide surprise events this month.
Schmidt was nominated by her school and selected for a surprise visit from Aurora Village OfficeMax staff members on October 7.
Each donation, valued at $1,000, includes a digital camera, printer, one leather swivel chair and a large box containing classroom supplies.
The name, "A Day Made Better," is derived from the concept that OfficeMax can make at least one day better for educators, providing teachers with essential classroom supplies.
Since "A Day Made Better" first began in 2007, OfficeMax has funded more than 3,500 teachers at Title I schools and their classrooms on behalf of the cause and helped attract donations for 10,000 classrooms through Adopt-A-Classroom. OfficeMax is located in the northeast corner of Aurora Village.
