Three early evening dance classes at the Senior Center

The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Center is introducing three early evening classes beginning this month. The classes are open to all adults in the community. “Younger” seniors who are still working may enjoy this opportunity to take some classes at the center that could more easily fit into a work day schedule.

Kashmira Almazan: Belly Dance
Starting on Wednesday, September 8, 6 to 7 pm is Belly Dancing Basics, taught by Kashmira Almazan, a professional belly dancer who performs locally and has taught for over 20 years. Exercise to the art of Belly Dance learning the grace and fluid movements to help tone, strengthen muscles, improve flexibility and balance; gentle on the body. Wear comfortable dance or exercise clothing.

Class fees: $7.00 for senior center members; $9.00 for non-members; purchase a Belly Dance ticket for up to 15 sessions that is good for 90 days.

Kathy Hokulani DeAguiar:  Hula
Starting on Monday, September 13, 6 to 7 pm is Hawaiian Hula, taught by Kathy Hokulani DeAguiar, who has been dancing the hula since the age of five; and is the kumu (teacher) of Hokulani’s Hula Studio out of Greenwood, Shoreline and Everett. Women and men of all ages will feel the benefits of the social art form of hula, meet new friends and broaden your cultural horizons while developing more coordination, grace, flexibility and stamina. Learn the motions and steps of a descriptive dance and some Hawaiian vocabulary.

Class fees: $8.00 for senior center members; $10 for non-members

Carolynne Kast: Zumba Gold
Starting on Tuesday, September 21, 6:30 to 7:30 pm is Zumba Gold, taught by certified instructor Carolynne Kast. Zumba Gold is based on the popular Latin dance-exercise Zumba but without all the jumping and twisting and with lower impact. Simple dance routines will be done using Samba, Merengue, Salsa, Chacha, Tango and even some Flamenco. Lots of fun while working on coordination and cardiovascular enhancement. Wear flexible supportive shoes, no rubber soles, loose, comfortable clothing.

Class fee: Drop in fee: $10 per class or purchase a ticket for 6 classes for $50; good for 2 months. Minimum number of students: 6.
