New playfields in time for the start of school
Thursday, September 2, 2010
On Tuesday and Wednesday the Shoreline School District opened new playfields at Lake Forest Park, Highland Terrace and Syre Elementary Schools.

The upgrades to these fields were paid for by the 2006 Capital Projects bond issue.
The fields were renovated in the summer of 2009, then were closed during the 2009-10 school year to let the new grass grow and mature.
The new fields feature synthetic turf cutouts in heavily-used areas.

Meh -
The school district "renovated" the field at Kellogg and only 8 years later tore it out and installed a synthetic turf that largely closed to the public.
The school district, as it proceeds with its bond projects, fences out the general public from any incidental use of their facilities during off hours even though we pay for it. Granted, it is private property and they are legally entitled to do so, but it is poor public relations especially when they are destroying other community institutions like the museum.
The school district - always with their hand out for more money but fewer community services, not a good neighbor.
The new Syre playing field is beautiful and a great asset to all the Richmond Beach community, even those of us who do not have children at the school.
Well done!
