Mural on the Burke-Gilman Trail

There is a new mural on the Burke Gilman Trail in Lake Forest Park. The mural will be ”officially opened“ on August 4 at 10 am. The public is invited to the ribbon cutting. The mural is located on the trail behind Motion Boardshop, 17230 Bothell Way NE, between Ballinger Way and NE 171 on the Burke Gilman Trail.

The Friends of the Burke Gilman Trail @ Lake Forest Park wanted to create some common ground in response to the recent trail controversies over the redevelopment of the trail. ”What better way to create common ground than through art,“ said Jim Hansen.

This collaboration has many partners including the members of the Friends of the Burke Gilman Trail @ Lake Forest Park, Robbin Bradburn, owner of the building that has been painted, King County Parks Department, and the City of Lake Forest Park.

The artist, Louis Chin, is a muralist. Chin, born in Alaska, studied fine arts and public arts at the University of Washington. Chin’s first mural was completed in 2004. In addition to the mural on the trail, Chin has completed murals in Seattle, Kent, and San Francisco. Currently he is working as an independent artist and contracting with schools and cities to work with at risk youth programs. . Click to see his Flickr Photostream.

”I am a regular trail rider,“ said Jeff Weissman, owner of Lake Forest Park’s Great Harvest Bread Company. ”I love riding by the mural and being reminded of the trail’s history and its future. What a community resource.“

King County and the City of Lake Forest Park have both supported the mural in its location next to the Burke Gilman Trail.
