Letter to the Editor: Support Ryu, Kagi, Chase

To the Editor:

I want to strongly encourage Shoreline residents to support Cindy Ryu, Ruth Kagi, and Maralyn Chase in their races. I have been involved with the 32nd District Democrats since 2002. I have watched and listened to (trying to learn) many office holders. These three candidates stand out for their unwavering and constant efforts to bring results to this district. I have been impressed with their repeated visits to our meetings and elsewhere to stay in communication with the voters and to keep us current with issues. I was disappointed NOT to be able to say that about Darlene Fairley. I haven't heard any ill-mannered remarks about her from these candidates, although I can't say the converse is true. Another disappointment. Therefore I do not give her endorsement of Doris Fujioka McConnell much weight. Nor can I appreciate the fact that Doris attends the Democratic meetings rarely unless she has a particular motive. Nor does Patty Butler attend. That is a free choice of course, but it bewilders me that someone wants to run as a Democratic Party candidate when they avoid (shun?) the very group that is eager to show enthusiasm and participation. This may sound very partisan, but that's politics in a 2-party system. Besides, I can't imagine any of these three good candidates as office-holders refusing to attend a Republican (or other group) meeting to share with them also.
Vote Cindy. Vote Ruth. Vote Maralyn.

  1. Excellent letter and great points! These candidates have been endorsed and declared the "nominee" for the party for good reason. They have the experience, commitment, dependability and courage to live up to the Democratic Values held by the party.

So glad we have such high quality candidates who will represent this district in Olympia.

  2. There are many, many "good democrats" out there who aren't eager to align themselves with some of the "over the top" politicking of the 32nd district dems.

It makes me give them special consideration.

  3. You guys obviously don't know Doris F McConnell. She probably wasn't at all of the meetings because of her busy schedule. I worked side by side with Doris for 2 years as a volunteer (she too was a volunteer) and she is the most hard working, responsible (fiscally responsible, listens to people, get things done and find a way to raise money type of person. She takes on the stuff that no one else wanted and went way beyond her scope. The people in Shoreline don't like Ryu, that's why she was voted out. Hands down, Doris is the best, and because she is new, we need to give her a chance to show what she has.

  4. Doris McConnell has also been too busy to responsibly attend city council meetings.

Doris listens only to those people she has chosen to and has attacked those she disagrees with during general public comment, which contributes to community discord.

People in the community dislike Doris as well, it all depends on who you ask. Doris is no longer is "new."

  5. So are you saying that Doris' unpaid volunteer work is more important to her than her duties as an elected Shoreline City Councilmember. She is getting paid to represent all of the residents of Shoreline. She is getting paid listen to all perspectives, understand the issues and make decisions that serve the best interests of all of the people of Shoreline. She cannot do that if she's not there. People who have had to keep a job all their life understand that if you don't show up for work, you get fired. Doris HAS been given a chance and she has shown the voters that they are not her top priority.
