A Shoreline area high school basketball team is preparing for the trip of a lifetime – and could use your help. This July, the basketball team is traveling to an impoverished community in Costa Rica to build a basketball court for Costa Rican youth. The Costa Rican town has a large youth population that is very interested in sports, but thanks in part to a lack of sporting facilities, many of the town’s youth turn to drugs or crime instead. Next month, the Shoreline basketball team will spend one week hand mixing and pouring concrete to build the community a new court.

When construction is complete, the Shoreline players will host a basketball camp to teach kids in the community basketball fundamentals. There are countless other things that these high school boys could be doing with their summer vacations, but they’ve chosen to serve, and are truly excited about the adventures that lie ahead.

In order to make this trip a reality, the team is deeply involved in fund-raising. The largest fundraiser of the year is occurring this Saturday morning, June 12 at the Majestic Bay Theater in Ballard. The theater will be hosting a special showing of the classic basketball movie Hoosiers, and special guest Nick Collison of the NBA (pictured) will be present, signing autographs and visiting with the community. Coffee and doughnuts will also be available, as well as raffle prizes and other surprises.

Tickets for this family event are $20, and are 100% tax-deductible. Tickets are selling fast, so please purchase your tickets for this incredible event today! Tickets and general donations can be found at the CourtsForKids website.

ITEM! Apparently the book will be available in September on Amazon, but if you REALLY love me you'll wait to buy it in November at your local comic shop, to better help spread the word about it. Either way, I'll have all the details on how to get it here at AclinCorp.
