Possible candidates for precinct committee officer file this week, along with candidates for other offices.
Candidates for Democratic and Republican PCOs in Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and other parts of King County can now file on line, as candidates for other offices may do.
Voters here and around the State will elect PCOs during the August primary.
Online filing in King County begins at 8:30 am Monday – a half hour before in-person filing – and ends at 4:30 pm Friday – a half hour after the end of in-person filing.
County elections officials are encouraging online filing for PCO candidates. They suggest these benefits:
- Candidates can file from the convenience of their homes;
- Candidates can only file for the precinct in which they are registered to vote; this prevents people from filing in the wrong precinct.
- Current filings will be available on the web faster and more frequently with online filings.
PCOs help set policies for local party organizations and, through them, higher level party organizations. When there is a vacancy for a partisan County or legislative office, PCOs from the party that held the office nominate candidates for appointment.
Many precincts often have either no Democrat or no Republican running for PCO, and some have neither on the ballot.
Information about filing for PCO or any other office is available on the web , by e-mail or by phone at 206-296-1565.
