Three Shorewood golfers – one girl, two boys – qualified for the State tournaments Monday and Tuesday, May 25-26.
Cassie McKinley qualified for the girls’ tournament at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick by finishing third in the Northwest District 4A tournament. With an 88-91-179 for two rounds on the par 72 Gallery Golf Club Tuesday and Thursday, May 18 and 20.
Max McKinley and Chris Babcock qualified for the boys’ State tournament by finishing fourth and 11th in the boys’ District tournament at the Everett Golf and Country Club Monday and Wednesday, May 17 and 19. McKinley scored 71-79-150 for two rounds on the par 72 course. Babcock shot 74-81-155.
The top 14 boys and top 14 girls qualified for State.
Team standings were decided in the first round of the tournament. The Shorewood boys placed fifth.
Boys' Team scores (five players, 18 holes, par 72)—Jackson 375, Kamiak 379, Arlington 402, Lake Stevens 412, Shorewood 413, Snohomish 414, Oak Harbor 421, Marysville-Pilchuck 438.
In 3A competition, the Shorecrest boys placed sixth Monday in the District tournament at Legion Memorial Golf Club in Everett.
Team scores (five players, 18 holes, par 72)— 1. Mount Vernon 402, 2. Glacier Peak 406, 3. Everett 439, 4. Ferndale 441, 5. Sedro-Woolley 447, 6. Shorecrest 460, 7. Meadowdale 465, 8. Lynnwood 490.
Andrew Hewitt of Shorecrest placed ninth in the tournament with a two-round score of 84-84—168. With the top eight golfers qualifying for State, he is an alternate.
Shorecrest also placed sixth in the girls’ District tournament at Lake Padden Golf Club in Bellingham.
Team scores (five players. 18 holes, par 72—Everett 494, Glacier Peak 514, Ferndale 516, Mt. Vernon 522, Lynnwood 617, Shorecrest 644.
