Shorewood’s improbable baseball run ended at Safeco Field in the State 4A final four,
The Thunderbirds lost Friday in the State semifinals, 1-0, to Richland, which went on to lose the championship game Saturday night to Kentwood.
Shorewood lost the third-place game Saturday afternoon to Federal Way, 11-3.
In the Friday loss to Richland, Duncan Hendrickson and Trevor Mitsui each had two hits. Blake Snell was the losing pitcher, despite striking out eight batters and giving up only one hit in 5 2/3 innings.
In the Saturday loss to Federal Way, Adam Girton batted in two of Shorewood’s runs. Losing pitcher Harrison Torrance struck out three batters in three innings.
Shorewood ended its season with an 18-11 record.
The T-birds’ run to the State semifinals came after the Thunderbirds had finished fourth among 4A teams in the Western Conference South Division, won a playoff game to qualify for the Northwest District tournament. finished a surprising third in the District tournament and defeated two highly ranked teams in a regional tournament May 22.
