Shorewood advances to District baseball tournament with 3-2 win over Oak Harbor

The Shorewood baseball team opens Northwest District 4A tournament play Saturday after a 3-2 victory over Oak Harbor Wednesday.

The Thunderbirds take a 13-8 season record into a first-round tournament game at Kamiak at 1 p.m. Saturday. Shorewood and Kamiak split a two-game series in late March, with each team winning on its home field. Kamiak won the Wesco South with a 14-3 record (16-3 overall). Shorewood finished fourth with a 10-8 record.

Shorewood qualified for the tournament by beating Oak Harbor at home Wednesday. Max Jacobs and Trevor Mitsui each hit a home run and each added a single.

Kevin Moriarty pitched six and a third innings without giving up an earned run. Oak Harbor jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to an error in the second inning but Moriarty settled in, striking out 10 and walking five before giving way to Blake Snell, who recorded the save.
