Lynnwood Kiwanis and Police Honor Shoreline Siblings as Everyday Heroes

Because of a willing young sister and brother from Shoreline, police were able to arrest an extremely intoxicated Auburn man. Lynnwood Police Department and Kiwanis recently presented the two with the Kiwanis “Everyday Heroes” plaques.

It was an early evening in January when sister and brother duo, Sandra Amolo, 20, and Melvin Injugu, 14, were driving from Shoreline into Lynnwood to do some shopping errands for their mother when they came across a man driving erratically.

The male driver was up and over curbs, crossing all lanes of traffic on Highway 99, so not only did they call 911 and stay on the line with the dispatcher, they also followed the car until police arrived on scene.

The extremely intoxicated 35-year-old Auburn man almost caused several accidents and he also had a felony escape warrant out for his arrest,” said responding Lynnwood Police Officer Clarke Savell. He added, “Even with all the problems this driver made, Sandra and Melvin were the only ones who called 911.”

The brother and sister then took the time to come back to the Lynnwood Police station to write a statement, helping with the prosecution of this DUI driver.

The two were honored at a recent Lynnwood Kiwanis meeting for their efforts as “Everyday Heroes.”
