Former Shoreline Mayor Cindy Ryu to open campaign for Legislature Monday

Former Shoreline Mayor Cindy Ryu will open her campaign for State representative Monday with a reception from 5 to 6 pm at Nara Bistro, 15033 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline.

Ryu will be a candidate for the 32nd District position now held by Rep. Maralyn Chase, who a week earlier announced her candidacy for the State senate seat held by retiring State Sen. Darlene Fairley.

Ryu won election to the City Council in 2003 and lost a bid for re-election in 2009 to current Councilwoman Shari Tracey.

Ryu presided over the Council as mayor in 2008 and 2009.

The next steps for Ryu are filing with the State public disclosure commission and seeking the 32nd District Democratic endorsement at the Party organization’s May 12 nominating convention.

Nearly a dozen names are circulating as possible opponents for either Chase or Ryu.
