The naming of the YMCA: Dale Turner's Legacy

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

The local branch of the YMCA serves a wide geographic area, so when the name was being chosen, the YMCA of Greater Seattle did not want to tie the branch's name to a particular city. Instead the Y was named the Dale Turner YMCA in honor of the late Rev. Dale Turner.

Rev. Turner was a Life Board member of the YMCA of Greater Seattle, minister at University Congregational Church, columnist for the Seattle Times and a resident of Lake Forest Park.
Rev. Turner was known for his commitment to service and the building of community through bringing people of all backgrounds together. He was an inspiration to many and therefore the YMCA honors his name and is proud to be part of his legacy.
