Evan Smith: Will Hall says Shoreline Council members have worked together

Shoreline City Councilman Will Hall (pictured, right) told me Saturday that his first 10 weeks on the Council have been marked by learning and by developing working relationships with other Council members.

“We have been able to work together to resolve some topics that have been controversial in the past,” he said. “For example, we made the temporary off-leash dog parks permanent, and we unanimously voted to appoint new members to the planning commission.”

He noted that the Council has yet to face major controversial issues.

He added that the Council also has been working hard behind the scenes to get state and federal support for the Aurora Corridor Project and other important city initiatives.

  1. that is a very nice thought. However just because you all think alike doesn't mean that it represents all the residents views as well.

  2. Will Hall did not forge the compromise to have a unanimous slate appointed to the planning commission. Doris McConnell was holding up the appointments and Chris Roberts was the councilmember who was able to find a way to break the deadlock.

  3. As a dog owner I so much appreciate the permanent off-leash parks! Now I would like to see the Richmond beach park open to off-leash use year-round.

  4. I wasn't aware that dog parks were "so controversial" in the past, especially since the voters did approve them in the 2006 Parks Bond.

The Shoreview dog park has been in place for about a year now. No one filed an appeal against the siting of the dog parks. In 2007 the parks department set up a citizen task force to conduct adequate site comparison and review when they did not do the first time around as required by law.

However, at no point in the entire process was the city council at loggerheads over approval - the Shoreview and Richmond Beach sites went through easily before Will Hall was on the council.

This statement by Will Hall is just political spin, inventing controversy where there was none.

  5. The city council is working behind the scenes for Aurora Project?

Didn't Cindy Ryu go to Washington, DC a year ago and nail down the funding for Phase II?

Isn't Will Hall the SnoCo representative on the Puget Sound Regional Council, advocating for the interests of Snohomish County on transportation issues and funding, so how does he reconcile his job with his elected position? You can't serve two masters, you either represent the voters of Shoreline or the interests of your employer when before the same body governing region-wide issues, which is what the Puget Sound Regional Council is.
