The Shoreline School maintenance-and-operations levy was passing Wednesday afternoon by a bigger margin than it had in the Tuesday night count.

Shoreline School District Prop. 1., which would extend the levy last passed four years ago for another four years, had a "yes" vote of 69.06 percent, compared to the 68.09 percent it had Tuesday night.

The levy pays for more than 20 percent of the District's operating budget.

Passing the levy is easier than it was in 2006 because a 2007 amendment to the State constitution eliminated requirements of a 60 percent "yes" vote and a 40 percent voter turnout.

As of the 4:30 p.m. Wednesday release of returns by the King County elections department, the total vote was 10.302 "yes" and 4,615 "no."

The voter turnout as of Wednesday was about what the elections department had expected for the countywide turnout.

Ballots included in the Wednesday count were generally those received by Tuesday, meaning that they had to be mailed by Monday or dropped off Tuesday.

The next vote count is scheduled for 4:30 pm Thursday. The elections department will continue to count votes until final certification, Wednesday, February 24.

The vote count as of Wednesday afternoon:
