Potala Place Shoreline Construction may begin this month |
Potala Place Shoreline, 15560 Westminster Way N Shoreline 98133, is a strategic mixed-use residential property located at the gateway to the Aurora Square Community Renewal Area in Shoreline, WA.
The 7-level apartment development includes approximately 309 residential units over 298 structured parking stalls.
The project will include two mid-rise residential towers above a single concrete podium. An internal podium level landscaped courtyard creates an outdoor space for the residents allowing fresh air and privacy.
Other amenities include a clubhouse, fitness center, BBQ area, dog walk and bicycle parking.
Sustainable design strategies are employed and considered throughout the building from material selection to construction waste
The bulldozers are currently working on the site and construction will begin as soon as final permits have been issued by the City of Shoreline later this month. Projected completion date is May 2017.
Apartment homes in this location between the shopping mall and Aurora Avenue, was part of the vision for renewal when the City of Shoreline formed the Community Renewal Area.
The developer is Dargey Real Estate Developers, which specializes in mixed use, multifamily, retail, and hotel development projects. Architects are Caron Architecture.

Yah! This is a HUUGGGGGEEEE improvement! I'm hoping some more of the abandoned lots on aurora also get replaced with quality construction sites.
Less than 1 parking space per unit? Are these all 1 bedroom units? if not, I can already see the parking mess that's coming...
And the City is giving away Westminster Way to the developer, along with years of property tax exemptions.
At the Aurora Square CRA EIS public hearing, a commercial real estate consultant said only an idiot would allow construction of a building the size of Portela because it would completely block the motorists view of Aurora Square as they passed by on Aurora. Need I say more, this comment says everything there is to know about the expertise of the City of Shoreline economic development and planning departments.
Best of all, the economic development director was opposed to a gazebo like the one at Cromwell because of all the noise the music would make, it was going to disturb a bunch of apartment dwellers living adjacent to and above Highway 99. It would be too funny if it weren't true...
The lack of parking for this and the other proposed new development on the China Buffet site is going to backfire with more of the public getting involved in fighting the City on these ridiculous developer giveaways. But it's like they can't even help themselves. Parking will spill over into adjacent neighborhoods and parking lots around Central Market and Haggen. when parking becomes impossible, people will seek out other places to shop. All you need to do to see Shorelines Vision 2029 in reality is to pop over the 145th border, drive down greenwood and then come back north through bitterlake.
Looks like a typical cookie cutter, Ballardesque development. No character to its appearance. I would like to see new buildings with a unique look to each instead of the same old boxy drab crates. seven units tall will look sorely out of place. An amusement would look better.
Wow. Just wow.
Not nearly enough parking for starters...
An area between the buildings dedicated to allow the residents to have "Fresh air"??? What an enticing selling point.
I foresee a problem with ingress and egress from any side.
Some one needs to go back to architect/urban development school, or from wherever these planners have hailed.
The developer appears to try and exceed building envelopes, ask for huge variances (Rainier Valley) and cram as much as he can into spaces. He seems to have all kinds of "proposals" but only one completed project. Potala Village Everett. Just see what "quality" he achieves.
Take a look at these HORRID Google Reviews of the only finished product, residential project. Meth Lab, Prostitutes, Dog Urine in hallways, Poor Management. And that is just a small 108 unit development. Guess it could only get worse as a project is more compact, more dense, etc. It may be replacing a "derelict" building, but we may be setting ourselves up as an unsavory community.

This is stupid Shoreline... They should make more bars and restaurants and shops that add character to the city... sad day indeed!
Wow, when did Shorelines council take lessons from Seattle? Really do we want to go here? If I wanted to live in Seattle I would, I chose Shoreline, can we please not try to make it mini Seattle. There should have been parking and some thought about how it is blocking aurora square, you don't need a degree to see that. Giveaways....stop! We are not Seattle.
