Therese Russell, special education teacher at Brookside Elementary School, was honored as the October 2 Shoreline School District recipient of the Heroes in the Classroom award sponsored by the Seattle Seahawks and Symetra Financial.
Therese was presented with the award in her classroom on Monday, September 26.
Symetra Heroes in the Classroom is a community program that recognizes Shoreline, Renton and Seattle teachers for outstanding leadership and instructional skills during the Seattle Seahawks season.
Therese has taught at Brookside since 2007 and previously at Ridgecrest, Lake Forest Park and Echo Lake. She was recognized at a Seahawks home game and received a team jersey, two tickets to a Seahawks game and on-field passes, and a $350 Office Max gift card for classroom supplies.
Therese was nominated by a Brookside parent, who wrote in part: "Mrs. Russell educates the whole student, helping to ensure each child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged. She is never without an outward expression of caring and warmth towards her students, even at the most challenging moments."
