The Lady Dolphin Volleyball Team, the defending NWAACC Northern Region Champions, had a strong showing at the 15 team Highline Community College Volleyball Tournament, finishing third and compiling a 3-2 record. The SCC squad went 2-1 in pool play, defeating Lower Columbia College and Southwestern Oregon Community College while dropping a match to the Community College of Spokane. SCC was the #2 in their pool played host Highline Community College in the first round of the Championship Bracket. SCC defeated the Thunderbirds in three games to advance to the semi-finals. SCC finished tied for third with Bellevue College.

The SCC Women’s Soccer Team under first year coach, Aaron Howe, opened their season with two ties at the NWAACC “Friendlies” Tournament at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila, WA. In the opening match of the two day event, SCC played Chemeketa Community College from Oregon and battled to a 3-3 tie. Freshmen Taylyr McLean, Donna Norton and Sara Gilmore all scored goals for SCC, who constantly played from behind in the game after falling behind 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, but managed to tie the game three times.

The second match of the tournament for Shoreline was against Clackamas Community College, also from Oregon, and again, SCC found themselves in a tie, as the Lady Dolphins again fell behind 1-0 but tied the game late in the first half on a goal by sophomore Anastaja Norins-Endres, and then played to a scoreless second half.

SCC opens its home schedule on Labor Day, as the Lady Dolphins play NWAACC power, Walla Walla CC, who went 2-0 in the “Friendlies” tournament, outscoring their opponents 9-0. Match time is 1:00 PM. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students.

Men’s Soccer
The defending NWAACC Northern Region Champions had a rough opening set of games at the NWAACC “Friendlies” Tournament at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila, WA. The SCC Dolphins had high hopes of a good start to the 2011 season, after starting last season 0-7-2 before winning 8 games in a row to make a run to the NWAACC Final Four and finishing third in the NWAACC.

SCC opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Clark College from Vancouver, WA. SCC scored first on a goal by freshman Jakob Hibbard, but Clark answered back with a quick strike themselves and added another goal before halftime to lead 2-1. Clark then sealed the game with a second half goal to finish the scoring. SCC had several opportunities in the second half but could not muster another score.

On Thursday, SCC faced a tough Chemeketa squad, but again SCC opened the scoring on a goal by freshman Connor Barton, but Chemeketa tied the game less than 2 minutes later and then scored two more first half goals to lead 3-1 at half. Chemeketa dominated the second half as well and produced 2 more goals to win the match, 5-1.

SCC will try to recover as they open their home schedule on Monday against Walla Walla CC at 3:15 PM at Dolphin Field on the SCC campus. Walla Walla finished the “Friendlies” tournament 1-1.

Admission if $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students at all SCC Home Soccer matches.
